Jordan Cumming claims 2019 Aldershot Open

Jordan Cumming finished a great week by winning the 2019 National Bangers Aldershot Open on Sunday afternoon, just a week after winning his first World Championship at Kings Lynn.

From the back of the grid, Cumming made his way through the field with relative ease as 760 Joey Reynolds shoved 341 Andrew Jones into the turn’s one and two armco – subsequently damaging Jones’ rear suspension and ending his own race as well.

Cumming took the win from 204 Charlie King and 28 Fred James.

After the race, Cumming said: “It was also a good break in having to start last (as World Champion) despite the low car numbers,” he chuckled. “I think the numbers were low because of the confusion of car options. It was also a good feeling to be wearing the gold roof for the first time, and I look forward to the year ahead.”

400 Lee Kingsnorth came home fourth whilst 414 Jimmy Craig finished a respectable fifth despite blowing the engine in the closing stages of the race.

820 Martyn Perkins was sixth, 102 Clayton Wheeler was seventh, eighth was 467 Sheldon Grimes with 84 Jack Ansell coming home ninth.

Cumming took victory in heat one too before finishing second in the last race of the day, with Kingsnorth just pipping him to the win.

341 Jones tried to exert his revenge on Reynolds in heat two by putting him up the turn one armco, but the 3-Litre driver managed to hold it in a controlled slide.
